Your business is not just a place of commercial exchange. It is an important living environment for your employees, who usually spend many hours there per week. It is also a meeting place for your customers: it can be a visit of a few minutes or a few hours, depending on your area of business. Do not forget the meetings with your suppliers, your business partners, or the impromptu visit of relatives and friends, etc. Owning a business imposes an additional responsibility: that of providing a meeting place in a healthy environment for the people who work there or visit it. The maintenance of your air conditioning and heating system as well as the cleaning of air ducts is an essential element in maintaining a healthy living environment.

An unmaintained air conditioning and heating system may be the ideal source of the following contaminants: Dust and debris, Debris of all kinds Bacteria, mold, allergens, germs, microbes Duct cleaning, carried out regularly, allows the elimination of contaminants that pollute the air that you, your customers and your employees breathe. Offer quality air to your peers and be recognized thanks to the cleaning certificate that we will give you once the work is complete.

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is, in environmental and occupational health, a syndrome describing a combination of medically unexplained symptoms or illnesses associated with a building.

People often report one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Dryness and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hypersensibility and allergies
  • Sinus congestion
  • Coughing and sneezing
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea

In general, people become aware of their symptoms after several hours at work, and feel better after leaving the building for a certain period of time. These symptoms can also be caused by other conditions, such as a cold or the flu, and are not necessarily the result of poor air quality. However, if several of your employees experience the same symptoms over a long period of time, your building could be suffering from SBS.

Heating and cooling a business can be a significant annual expense. The level of maintenance of the heating and air conditioning system has a direct impact on its operating cost. A lack of maintenance will greatly favor the accumulation of dust, debris, pollutants and contaminants in the various components of the system. Here are three essential components whose neglect can lead to additional operating costs:

The accumulation of contaminants on the coil reduces its energy efficiency because the transmission of cold or heat through the fins is reduced as the accumulation becomes significant. The system must then run longer to maintain the desired temperature, resulting in additional energy consumption.

An air filter that is not replaced regularly fills with too much dust and debris and creates an air restriction in the ventilation system. This leads to a loss of efficiency in heating and cooling. Your system must then run longer to reach the desired temperature, resulting in higher energy consumption.

The accumulation of dust and debris in the air ducts obstructs the air circulation thus causing a restriction on the air flow. The system will run longer to maintain the desired temperature resulting in additional energy consumption.

For the commercial sector, it is recommended to have the heating and air conditioning equipment inspected, as well as the air ducts and the air return and exhaust ducts every year. If the inspection reveals the presence of one of the following elements, it is recommended to have the air ducts cleaned:

  • Particle buildup
  • Deficient system performance
  • Odors coming from the system
  • Discharges of debris or impurities visible to the naked eye
  • System invaded by birds, rodents or insects or presence of their droppings noted
  • Contamination by construction dust or debris
  • Presence of mold

A proper inspection will decide whether duct cleaning is required or not.
